Harris Co, TX (August 26, 2021) - An alleged underage drunk driver is facing charges of manslaughter after crashing into a woman whose car became disabled on the North Freeway, killing her.
The collision took place on the inbound lanes of Interstate 45 near the Beltway at about 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25th.
Officers reported that after the woman's Toyota 4-Runner broke down on the interstate. As she attempted to exit her vehicle, she was struck and killed by a 20-year-old male driving a Chevy pick-up truck.
Investigators have determined that the truck was speeding on I-45 and the driver did not apply his brakes before he hit the woman.
After the impact, the Chevy caught fire.
Bystanders pulled the man out of his burning vehicle to safety.
At this point, officers believe the 20-year-old was intoxicated. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
The county has accepted a charge of intoxicated manslaughter.
