Montgomery Co, TX (August 4, 2021) - A man was killed in an auto-pedestrian accident that occurred on Wednesday afternoon, August 4.
A little after 2:00 p.m., officers arrived at the scene of the incident, which occurred near Hermann Hospital. Around that time, the driver of a Ford F250 pickup was leaving Hermann and pulled out of the parking lot, failing to yield to a 63-year-old male walking northbound on the feeder road nearby.
He hit the man but stopped at the scene to render aid. EMS units were also dispatched and attempted life-saving measures on the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was then transported by Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy.
Officers say the investigation into the circumstances of the collision is ongoing.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Texas
Each year, upwards of 7,500 pedestrians sustain injuries during vehicle collisions all across our state. The fact that pedestrians are not afforded the luxury of having steel cages to keep them safe makes them a lot more susceptible to fatal and life-threatening injuries. The majority of car crash victims receive injuries that require them to undergo emergency operations and spend weeks or even months trying to rehabilitate.
Even though we would hope that all victims can overcome their injuries and move forward with their lives, this is not always the case. Motor vehicle collisions take the lives of over 3,600 victims every year. Approximately 17% of victims who are killed in these kinds of accidents are pedestrians.
When pedestrians die in car accidents, they usually leave behind family members and friends who are overwhelmed by this unexpected and sudden loss. Even though there are very few things more distressing than the loss of someone you love, knowing that they were killed due to another person’s negligence makes the circumstances even more emotional.
Although money is not able to replace the lives of those taken from us so suddenly, having the economic resources that are necessary to move forward following this loss can help lighten some of the burdens that families will endure.
