Super Lawyers is a rating service that helps clients in every state find the most qualified lawyers from over 70 practice areas. The attorneys on the Super Lawyers list and Rising Stars list have received considerable praise from their peers and are committed to client satisfaction.
The following is the selection process for the annual Super Lawyers list and Rising Stars list:
- Nominations – Lawyers from each state are invited to nominate the top attorneys they have personally observed inside and outside the courtroom. Super Lawyers’ attorney-led research team, readers, clients, marketing directors, and other lawyers who are not eligible to nominate are also able to vote.
- Independent research – The 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement the organization’s research department uses to assess each candidate include verdicts/settlements, representative clients, experience, transactions, honors/awards, special licenses/certifications, bar and/or professional activity, position within the firm, education/employment background, community service and pro bono work, scholarly lectures/writings, and other significant achievements in the field.
- Peer evaluation – Candidates who have obtained the most points from the steps one and two must serve on the “Blue Ribbon Panel” and reviews other candidates in the same practice area.
- Final selection – Candidates from four firm-size categories (e.g., solo, small, medium, and large) with the highest point totals are selected.
Only 2.5 percent of attorneys are named in the Rising Stars list, while five percent of lawyers are selected to the Super Lawyers list. In order to be eligible for the Rising Stars list, candidates must either be 40 years old or younger, or have been in practice for 10 years or less.
